Overview
Provide a textual overview of the exchange requirement under the headings Scope, General Description and Information Description. Keep it non-technical and aimed at an executive audience.
Scope
The scope of this exchange requirement is to enable the exchange of roadway surface feature information including identification, spatial location (alignment-based and coordinate-based), feature type classification (lane markings, pavement letters and symbols, rumble strips, safety edge), dimensions, and material specifications necessary for traffic control and pavement design.
General Description
Roadway surface features are functional elements applied to or integrated into the pavement surface to provide traffic guidance, safety warnings, and edge protection. This exchange requirement captures both the geometric definition and the specification properties for four primary feature types: lane markings (painted or thermoplastic lines), pavement letters and symbols (turn arrows, text), rumble strips (longitudinal or transverse grooves for driver alert), and safety edge (pavement edge treatment for run-off recovery). The information model supports referencing these features to highway alignments using stationing and offset data, as well as absolute positioning.
Information Description
The information exchanged through this requirement includes the following parts:
- Identification
- Alignment Data Linear
- State Plane Coordinates Linear
- LRS Data Linear
- GPS Coordinates Linear
- Roadway Surface Features General
- Pay Item Information
- Alignment Data Point
- State Plane Coordinates Point
- LRS Data Point
- GPS Coordination Point
